Description: Significant Chicago White Sox mascot uniform c.1917. Incredible diminutive example of a period 1917 Chicago White Sox jersey and hat as worn by E.J. Silvers who was the mascot for the team. The jersey retains its' original "Mascot Brand, Chicago" tag in collar, "SOX" breast patch remains in original condition on the front and applique U.S. flag is affixed to sleeve. Shirt has appropriate usage wear with some soiling and a few areas of color 'bleeding'. Matching hat has red and blue piping on top with navy blue bill, shows similar appropriate usage wear incl. some lt. staining. Remarkable ensemble originated directly from Mr. Silvers himself and includes photo of him (later in life) holding the jersey and wearing cap along with handwritten letter of provenance stating history of shirt. Mr. Silvers notes and it is quite possible that he wore this group in the 1919 World Series but the style and tagging matches that on known 1917 examples incl. Ray Schalk's jersey currently on tour from the Baseball Hall of Fame. In addition Silvers claimed to have worn the jersey at a ceremony before the 1919 Series. Unique opportunity to acquire a uniform collectible from one of the most storied teams in Major League history. Includes LOA from Global David Bushing/Dan Knoll/Mike Baker: EX
