Description: Rare 1894 Temple Cup print. Universally accepted as one of the finest baseball display pieces the offered print measures 33"x47" in its' original gilt lined oak frame. Print depicts a game scene during the Championship series named after Pittsburgh sportsman William Temple and were originated to create a postseason between the two top teams in the National League. Above and below game scene are vignette portraits of baseball dignitaries and players incl. Harry Wright, John Ward, Cy Young. Chas. Comiskey, Hugh Duffy, W.Robinson, Amos Rusie, and Cap Anson. Print is after painting by Hy Sandham and is pencil signed by Sandham at lower rt.. Very clean overall condition with only some light soiling in a few areas, frame has some wear incl. chipping to gilt lining. Print was recently discovered in the attic of a Victorian estate and has not been offered publicly before this sale, stunning period display piece: EX
