Lot Number: 250

Description: Mickey Mantle autographed and attributed baseball glove with Bobby Richardson provenance c.1960s. Rawlings model "XPG6" left handed glove with "Mickey Mantle" (facsimile signature) and "Personal Model" stampings inside displays nice use and some light age related wear. It has been signed "Mickey Mantle" on the outside in marker rating approx. 6/7 out of 10. While the glove is a retail model, it is certainly a top of the line offering from Rawlings and it has been documented over the years (both by photographic evidence and statements from players themselves) that gloves of this nature were sometimes used in Major League play. The glove was gifted to a fan on field at Yankee Stadium by Mantle's teammate Bobby Richardson whom had met through Richardson's best friend. A pair of handwritten letters (copies) from Richardson accompany the glove and help to trace its' history. In a 2008 note he writes, "...my teammate Mickey Mantle while playing together in the 60's gave me the glove that I gave to Rich Zerner. He was a friend of my best friend + I was his host in N.Y..." Some more intimate details of the day and relationships mentioned are relayed in the other letter dated 9/22/2000. A letter from Zerner himself is also included as is a photo of Zerner with Richardson (this taken during a later Old-Timers event). A desirable piece with strong history that can be traced back to Mantle during the prime of his now legendary career. Includes copies of two Richardon letters, letter from Rich Zerner (with accompanying image of Zerner and Richardson), full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph), and LOA from Hunt Auctions (glove): EX
