Lot Number: 30

Description: Early 1980s Steve Carlton autographed Philadelphia Phillies patent leather professional model cleats. Very uncommon pair of Adidas brand cleats are done in Phillies team colors with a seldom seen high gloss finish to the patent leather surface. They are identical in style to those worn by Tug McGraw in the early 1980s including the iconic image of McGraw leaping in the air following the final out of the 1980 World Series. Each has a very faded "32" written on the outer heel and both have been signed by Steve Carlton in marker rating 7/8 to 8/9 out of 10. Strong use evident throughout with wear to the toe area on the left shoe (Carlton cleats would often have this area rubber reenforced as he tended to dig the toes of his back foot into the mound when pitching). The tongue/tag has been removed or has fallen off the right shoe. Originally obtained by a collector who received items directly from players and team employees in the period. Includes auction LOA from JSA , LOA from Hunt Auctions, and letter of provenance: EX"
