Description: Fine Bill Russell original illustrative painting by Robert Arthur as presented by The Sporting News for the 1962 MVP Award c.1962 (Russell Collection Photo Match). Beautifully executed color pencil on board with watercolor appointments by noted Massachusetts artist, Robert Arthur. Exceptional detail evident particularly in the portrait of a young Bill Russell positioned alongside of an action posed in Celtics uniform. 15"x18" in a double matted gilt frame signed by artist at lower right. Arthur’s works are highly coveted with additional subjects having included Rocky Marciano and Red Auerbach. The offered painting was given to Russell by The Sporting News having been recognized as the NBA Most Valuable Player for 1962 and is accompanied by a period newspaper photo picturing Russell receiving the painting.
