Description: 1956 Bill Russell East-West Collegiate All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award (NCAA Championship Season). Ornate figural trophy as presented to Bill Russell for his selection as the Most Valuable Player at the 1956 East-West Collegiate All-Star Benefit Game. The annual East-West classic was played in Kansas City to benefit the Shriner's Children's Hospital. The annual All-Star game showcased the nation's brightest college star players which for 1956 included Bill Russell and K.C. Jones (University of San Francisco), Bill Logan (University of Iowa), Jim McLaughlin (St. Louis University), and Bob Burrow (University of Kentucky). Not surprisingly, Russell was selected as the most valuable player for the game and presented with the offered award. Two handled loving cup figural brass center piece supports a large basketball player figural on top. Two tier black painted wooden plinth base displays two flanking figural players. Loving cup is inscribed, "Potentate's Award Roy P. Swanson Illustrious Potentate Most Valuable Player Ararat Shrine Annual All Star East-West Basketball Game K.C., MO 1956". Visual appearance and condition rate as very fine, with the top figural player having been re-affixed to the loving cup, and the surface finish touched up accordingly. Base retains its "Varsity Trophy Kansas City" labeling underneath. Impressive 23" tall overall height. One of the more significant collegiate related trophies from Russell's legendary career.
