Description: Fine 1956 Bill Russell Outstanding Basketball Player of the Year Award (NCAA Championship Season). Important accolade as presented to Russell for his incredible 1956 season which culminated in a second consecutive NCAA championship. Beautifully crafted figural brass trophy as commissioned and presented to Russell by the Touch Down Club of Columbus, Ohio features a figural player atop three columns mounted on larger cylindrical body. Black ceramic base has been replaced. Inscribed on front of center piece, "The Outstanding Basketball Player of the Year 1956 Bill Russell University of San Francisco Presented by The Touch Down Club of The Athletic Club of Columbus, Ohio". Superb overall condition with repair to player figural at the ankle area. Retains original "Dodge Trophies" metal hallmark label underneath. 23" tall. One of the more notable and impressive visual examples from the Russell Collection dating to his epic collegiate career.
