Description: 1956 Bill Russell Player of the Year Award (NCAA Championship Season). Impressive 27" tall award as presented to Russell for being named Player of the Year for 1956 as a member of the national champion University of San Francisco team. Figural brass player finial is found atop a columnar support mounted on a three tier wooden base. Inscribed brass placard on the front of the base, "S.F.S. & S.A. Player of the Year 1956 Bill Russell U.S.F." Connecting area of the figural players has some surface flaking and minor chipping with the two winged figurals on the back of the base having been replaced. Significant early career award as presented to Russell after the completion of the most dominant collegiate basketball careers to date.
