Lot Number: 39

Description: Fine 1954 Ted Williams autographed Boston Red Sox professional model road jersey (SGC/Grob: "Excellent") Road grey jersey has "Boston" team name across the front and number "9" on back. "Tim McAuliffe" tag appears on the front tail which is chain stitch embroidered "54 Williams 44-2." This denotes year, player, size, and set number. While slightly smaller than Williams was typically issued this is likely due to his reported loss of (20) pounds while serving with the Marine Corp. in 1952-53. The sleeves are Williams' preferring shortened length (as can be seen in contemporary images) and both front and back tails have been trimmed to removed excess material. The bottom button has been replaced. In fine overall condition with appropriate use and wash wear evident throughout. Signed "Ted Williams" in the collar in marker rating 7 out of 10. In a playing career that spanned four decades with the Red Sox, and was interrupted by two military tours of duty that cost him nearly five full seasons, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound "Splendid Splinter" amassed an average of .344 with 521 home runs, 1,839 RBI, 2,019 walks, a slugging percentage of .634 that remains second to only Babe Ruth's .690, and an on-base percentage of .483 that is second to no one. An exceptional game jersey from "The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived." Includes LOAs from JSA, Hunt Auctions, and SGC/Grob (graded "Excellent"): EX
