Description: Important c.1892 Cleveland Spiders team photograph with Cy Young. Sepia toned approx. 7"x4.25" photo on mount showing members of the Spiders in uniform with a potent lineup that included Hall of Famers Cy Young, John Clarkson, Jesse Burkett, and George Davis. Young was at the dawn of his now legendary career and dominated the National League in the early 1890s with a streak of (20) win seasons that began in 1891 and would run through 1904 (he won 30 or more 3 times between 1892 and 95). The 1892 season marked the first in history in which teams played a split season (win/loss records resetting at the halfway point) and the Spiders finished atop the N.L. for the second half. Substantive early team photographs from this era are notably rare and the offered example boasts far greater clarity and registration than is typically seen. Corner and edge wear includes some chipping/loss and there is a crack to the right side which has been secured from behind with tape. Stamped "W.H. Burnum" on the back which has several handwritten notations. Includes letter of provenance from the Virtue Family: GD
