Lot Number: 97

Description: Fine 1939 Monte Pearson New York Yankees professional model home jersey (World Championship season). Pinstriped flannel has the name "M.Pearson" embroidered in the collar. There is a Spalding tag below with adjacent size "44" flag tag and a wash tag. The year "39" is embroidered in the back tail above a small hole from the where a strap was removed which could have been used by the player to help keep the jersey tucked in (there are a pair of matching holes in the front tail to which the strap would have been secured). Both the "NY" logo on front and number "16" on back have been expertly restored/replaced and an original 1939 "Baseball Centennial" patch was put back on the left sleeve. In fine overall condition with appropriate use and wash wear evident throughout. The jersey is purported to match that which Pearson can be seen wearing just after throwing his complete game shutout in the 1939 World Series however the printed image which has been furnished to us is not of sufficient quality to confirm that determination. An exceptional survivor from the Yankees Championship season. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
