Lot Number: 86

Description: Rogers Hornsby attributed baseball glove c.1930s-40s (Family provenance). Rawlings brand left handed glove is a Red Rolfe signature model. An included letter of provenance, dated 1983, which is signed by William P. Hornsby relays that it is a "Rogers Hornsby glove which is autographed by me...to lend further authenticity." A small slip of paper which was long ago taped to the outside (and remains firmly affixed) has been signed "Bill Hornsby" and it is presumed that the letter is eluding to the glove having been used by his father, Rogers. A very faint vintage notation on the wrist strap appears to read "Horn..." (end faded) and there is use and some general age related wear throughout. The glove likely dates to the mid 1930s or perhaps as late as the early 40s which would place it at the tail of Rogers Hornsby's playing career and the start of his time as a Coach. Hornsby remains among the most revered players of all-time with a lengthy list of career accomplishments that include a pair of National League M.V.P. Awards, (7) batting titles, a pair of Triple Crowns, and the second highest batting average in Major League history (trailing behind only Ty Cobb). Includes aforementioned letter of provenance and LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
