Description: Scarce Jimmie Foxx Philadelphia Athletics professional model baseball hat c.1929-32. No player of the 1930s era, and perhaps of any era, was more feared by pitchers than Jimmie Foxx. "The Beast" was raised in the farming area of Sudlersville, MD and quickly earned a reputation as a tremendous slugger during the 1920s as a member of the mighty Athletics. "His hair has muscles" as remarked by Lefty Gomez. Foxx was the centerpiece of the Philadelphia A's dynasty teams of the late 1920s and early 1930s including the 1929 World Championship club which many historians rank as the greatest of all time. Offered is an exceedingly rare game artifact from Foxx in the form of his professional model hat retaining its trademark blue embroidered "A" across the front with grey body and soft blue brim. Interior has original leather headband fully intact with highly desirable "Foxx" chain stitched into the side. Spalding manufacturer's stamp impressed into leather band. The hat shows evident use throughout including a few surface chips to the blue material on the bill. Recently discovered within a Pennsylvania family whose origins trace the hat back to the Drexel Hill area of Philadelphia. Professional model hats from Hall of Fame players of this era are incredibly rare with scant few know to have survived. pen the best of our knowledge this is the first example of a Jimmie Foxx Athletics hat to have surfaced and easily ranks among the most notable Hall of Fame member hats to have been offered at auction. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: VG-EX
