Lot Number: 38

Description: Rare Chicago White Sox professional model road uniform attributed to Nemo Leibold c.1919-24 (SGC/Grob: Superior/Excellent). Grey flannel jersey has the "Sox" logo on left front chest. Both the collar and three quarter length sleeves are trimmed in blue. "Thos. E. Wilson" tag appears in the collar and the tail has been trimmed likely removing any other tagging/identifiers. Pants are likewise by Wilson and the name "Leboldt" is stitched in the flap. This is presumably a misspelling of Leibold suggesting that the uniform was issued to Nemo Leibold. Standing just 5'6" tall, it makes sense that Leibold would have trimmed down the jersey having no use for all of the excess material and the short inseam of the pants also supports use by a shorter player. An image of Leibold we were able to locate, which has "July 1920" date written on the back, shows him wearing a uniform which would have similar sizing. Use and wash wear are evident throughout and the uniform is well preserved overall with some light natural age related toning. The "Sox" team logo has slightly pulled away from the stitching in a few areas. An exceedingly rare and early complete uniform dating to the era of the infamous 1919 Chicago 'Black Sox' and one of the only surviving examples of this iconic style type. Includes LOA from SGC/Dave Grob (Superior/Excellent): EX
