Lot Number: 23

Description: Exceedingly rare New York Giants professional model road jersey c.1913 (SGC/Grob: Excellent). Pinstriped flannel jersey done in heavy gauge wool has the original "NY" team logo embroidered on left sleeve. The collar (likely a sun collar style) has been removed along with the majority of the original Spalding manufacturers tag (and possibly some supplemental tagging). All buttons are original and are firmly affixed. Button holes on each sleeve suggest that it would have originally been issued with removable sleeves. In exceptional overall condition with evident use and wash wear but no flaws that are worthy of note. The Giants teams of the early 1910s were a dominant force in the National League winning three consecutive Pennants from 1911-1913. Among their roster were some of the most talented players of the period including the Legendary Christy Mathewson, fellow Hall of Famer Rube Marquard, catcher Chief Meyers, and the famed Jim Thorpe (joining them in 1913). The squad was lead by fiery Manager John McGraw who served at the helm of the team for a total of (30) years. Among the earliest MLB game jerseys to have surfaced and a museum quality display piece. Includes LOA from SGC/Dave Grob (Excellent): EX
