Description: Rare 1908 Chicago Cubs World Champions pin presented to Doc Marshall. Desirable original player presented pin features "Worlds Champions 1908" lettered around a baseball field design which has a large blue sapphire at the center. This stone is presumably a replacement as the other scant few examples of this pin to have surfaced have a diamond in its place. Accented with floral garland around the edge and the name "Wm R Marshall" is engraved on the back. An eyelet was added to allow the pin to be worn on a chain. touch of light wear and weighs (8) grams. The 1908 Cubs potent lineup included some of the most notable players of the period including Hall of Famers Joe Tinker, Johnny Evers, Frank Chance, and Mordecai Brown. The team dominated the National League claiming three consecutive pennants from 1906-08 and back to back World Series titles in 1907 and 08. The 1908 victory would be their last until one of baseballs' most enduring "curses" was ended in 2016 after a (108) year drought.
