Description: Significant 1970 Johnny Bench National League Most Valuable Player Award. Iconic black painted wooden plaque measures 16" across with octagonal sterling silver placard mounted on front. A bust of Kennesaw M. Landis sits atop "Most Valuable Player" titling with name Johnny Bench" impressed below. "Cincinnati Reds" team name appears below and the year, "1970" is incorporated into a crossed bats and ball design. Touch of light wear in the form of a few extremely minor scattered nicks and surface tarnish. Reverse of the award has green felt backing which was applied later with original Dieges & Clust labeling affixed to wooden backplate. Bench's 1970 season was statistically the finest of his career belting 48 home runs and collecting 148 RBIs to lead the National League. His growing leadership on the emerging Reds dynasty proved invaluable as he led the team to their first World Series appearance since the 1940 season. Bench was bestowed with his first MVP award in nearly unanimous fashion collecting a staggering 97% of the total first place votes. Very fine and important award which is one of the more notable having been offered to the public. Includes the original 11/20/70 dated letter on National League stationary from Chub Feeney (secretarial signature) congratulating him on winning the award and letter of provenance from Johnny Bench: EX-MTEstimated Price Range: ($75,000-$150,000)
