Description: 1970 Johnny Bench "Player of The Year" Award. Black wooden plaque (11"x13.5") has applied metal faceplate which reads "The Sid Mercer Memorial Award, Player of The Year To John Bench, For His Outstanding Achievements And Rich Contributions To Baseball, Presented By the New York Chapter, Baseball Writers Association Of America, 1970." Hint of light wear and there is some tarnish/discoloration to metal portion. In what was arguably his finest season in baseball Bench claimed his first National League Most Valuable Player Award leading the League in home runs and RBI and earned his third consecutive Gold Glove for his defensive play.
