Description: Significant 1968 Johnny Bench Sporting News "Rookie Player of The Year" award. Prestigious award in the form of a presentational plaque (12.5"x15") has a bust portrait engraved in metal applied at the center. "The Sporting News, 1968 N.L. Rookie Player of The Year" titling appears across the top. An additional placard at the bottom reads "Johnny Bench, Cincinnati, Named 1967's minor league player of the year, Bench followed up with a solid first season behind the plate...The rookie Red catcher shook off a typically slow start with the bat to finish with 15 home runs, 82 rubs batted in and a .275 average while leading National League receivers in assists and putouts."
