Description: Vin Scully 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers Goodwill Tour of Japan photographic album with incredible hand written journal and related supplemental photographs. Presentational album given to members of the historic tour including players featuring an Oriental flying crane embroidered silk cover with gilt titling. Interior features (33) mounted 7"x9" black and white original photographs taken during the Tour with numerous subjects including: Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, Japanese stadiums, Dodgers and Japanese team photos, and military related scenes. Album remains in nearly as issued condition with well preserved covers and interior images. The album also includes a period Tokyo composition notebook in which Scully chronicled the entire trip in meticulous detail including mention of stadiums, Japanese fans, excursion trips to Japanese sites, Dodger player references, and more. Countless prose in the style that only Vin Scully could execute are found throughout the book for example, "Forward: This might not be a very imposing looking book but if to serve a purpose is to be desired, it should be able to do all that and then some. I won't be able to remember all the events during this trip but this little book should help me on that scale. Maybe no one else will ever read it, but for me, I can span the 11,000 miles or so just by rippling its pages. And so the book has been bought, the forward has been begun, and now....it's off to Japan.". Important period account of a historic international baseball trip penned by one of the great broadcasting pioneers in the history of the game. Lastly, the lot includes (24) original black and white photographs taken during the 1956 Tour with various baseball related subjects including Campanella, Japanese players, and stadium scenes.
