Description: Significant 1951 Willie Mays rookie portrait photograph as used for the 1952 Topps card #261 (PSA/DNA Type I). Original black and white portrait image picturing a young Willie Mays in New York Giants uniform. Exceptional clarity and contrast is evident throughout with the front having a few light surface wrinkles and some typical minor wear. Reverse of the image displays appropriate International News Service stamping along with Nov. 1951 date stamp and "Willie Mays of Giants" typewritten titling. Few other additional pencil notations are present and some small surface abrasions. This particular image was used on the iconic 1952 Topps baseball card which was the first issued for Willie Mays and among the most coveted of the set issue. According to the PSA database as relayed by Henry Yee the offered example is the only confirmed Type I specimen of this particular image. Incredible rarity presenting in beautiful condition grade.
