Description: Unusual Philadelphia Phillies professional model road jersey c.1949-Possible Spring Training. Grey flannel jersey displays classic "Phillies" team name in red on blue felt across the front with matching "17" across the back. Spalding manufacturer's label is affixed inside the collar along with "44" chain stitched size tag. Jersey presents in fine original condition with evident use and retains its red and blue piping. Based on team name font and piping style we place the dating of the shirt around the 1949 period with both Stan Hollmig and Granny Hamner having wore #17. Although rare, the known 1949 Phillies jerseys that have surfaced all were manufactured by Wilson with none to our knowledge having been issued by Spalding. Incredibly rare style quite possibly issued for Spring Training based on evident use or perhaps worn during the season as a manufacturer outlier. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
