Description: Rare and important John McGraw New York Giants professional model road jersey c.1931-32 (SGC Excellent). Gray flannel jersey has the "Giants" team name lettered on front in logo font. In the collar is a "Spalding" manufacturers tag and the name "J. McGraw" is embroidered to one side. In outstanding overall condition with light evident usage and wash wear and the only notable flaw being a small hole which runs along the seam (adjacent to the red and blue trim) between the third and fourth button holes on the front. In the midst of a much lauded playing career, which stretched from 1891-1906, John McGraw assumed Managerial duties of the Baltimore Orioles in 1899. This began a (33) year stretch, during which he served as skipper for both the Orioles (1899-1902) and New York Giants (1902-1932), that would ultimately cement a legacy rooted in immense success. With Mugsy at the helm of the Giants the Franchise flourished and he led the team to (10) National League Pennants and (3) World Series Championships. His (2,784) career wins are second only to Connie Mack but Mack himself is quoted to have said, "There has been only one Manager - and his name is McGraw." The importance of the offered jersey can not be overstated having been issued to one of the game+s most influential early 20th Century figures and the rarity is of note with this being one of only a handful of known examples. Includes LOAfrom SGC/Dave Grob (Excellent) and LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
