Lot Number: 55

Description: 1936 Julius "Moose" Solters St. Louis Browns professional model road uniform. Gray flannel jersey has "St. Louis" team name lettered across the front in brown on yellow felt and number "5" on back. A "Spalding" tag appears in the collar beside "Solters 5" in red chain stitch. The year "36" is chain stitched in the tail. Matching pants are likewise by Spalding with "Solters 5...36" stitched in. Well preserved with evident usage and wash wear along with fraying to the trim. There are a handful of team repairs (more appear on pants than jersey) and the front tail of the jersey was trimmed off (presumably done in the period and more than likely by the player or team). In addition there are some scattered moth holes and spots/small stains. A blue hat dating from around the same time period accompanies the ensemble however this does not appear to relate directly to this uniform or the Browns. One of only a few Browns jerseys from this period to have surfaced and on a very short list of known complete uniforms dating to the 1930s. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
