Description: Roger Peckinpaugh New York Yankees professional model home jersey and pants - extraordinary museum quality uniform and one of the earliest known c.1915-16. Pinstriped cadet-collar jersey with the original "NY" logo on left front chest has a "Spalding" manufacturer's tag in the collar with "Peckinpaugh" embroidered below. Pants are likewise by Spalding and have "2-36" embroidered below the tag in the waistband. Both pieces remain in exceptional overall condition with appropriate usage and wash wear along with some minor toning, a few scattered spots, and other light general wear. The original team logo on front chest of the jersey has toned to a muted blue color and is firmly affixed with only one small area that has pulled away from the stitching. Several pinholes may be the result of prior display and are mentioned for accuracy having no effect on eye appeal. Also included is the pinstriped hat which was found with the uniform. Peckinpaugh is regarded as one of the finest defensive shortstops of the dead ball era and was named Yankees team Captain shortly after joining the team in 1914. He would remain in that esteemed position until 1921. Possibly the earliest complete Yankees home uniform extant and one of only a handful of Major League jerseys from this time period to have surfaced. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and modern copy of Yankees team photo picturing Peckinpaugh in very similar, if not identical, uniform: EX
