Lot Number: 109

Description: Important 1934 United States All-Star Tour of Japan team autographed photograph. Babe Ruth's personal copy of this highly desirable classic image taken during the U.S. Tour of Japan in 1934 having been signed by (17) members. Signatures include Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Connie Mack (manager), E.Whitehill, E.McNair, F.Hayes, B.Miller, P.Cascarella, Lefty O'Doul, D.Ebling (trainer), R.Warstler, Charlie Gehringer, J.Brown, Lefty Gomez, Jimmie Foxx, and Mo Berg who was also serving a mission as a U.S. intelligence spy. Signatures range from 7 to 9 out of 10 with note to the "Lou" in Lou Gehrig which has not faded but rather appears that some of the original ink did not "take". Image itself is of a matte finish and measures 8 1/2"x12" housed in archival matting/frame. Photo quality is quite strong with thousands of Japanese fans visible in the stands. Small line crease at top left corner mentioned for accuracy only. Based on the very few similar examples of this iconic signed image which have been previously offered, we can clearly ascertain that these were presented to members of the 1934 Tour only. There could be no more desirable specimen than that of Babe Ruth who led the Tour capturing awards and praise alike. Historic offering of one of the more significant baseball autographed images to have been offered at public auction. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA and letter of provenance from the Ruth family: Photo: EX/MT-NM, Signatures: range EX-NM
