Lot Number: 68

Description: Exceptional Mel Ott autographed professional model baseball bat as presented to Charles "Chub" Feeney c.1946-48 (PSA/DNA GU 10). Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measuring 35" long and weighing 32.6oz. Bat shows excellent use including ball marks, stitching impressions, and appropriate light grain swelling to the barrel end. The knob end of the bat displays a small area of writing which certainly resembles Ott's uniform number "4" but is not conclusive. The barrel of the bat has been signed in bold fountain pen, "Best Wishes, Mel Ott" rating a string 8 out of 10. From a very young age young Charles Feeney followed the New York Giants which were owned by his grandfather Charles Stoneham. His favorite player on the team was Mel Ott as documented within several period baseball publications. The offered bat was signed by Ott and presented directly to Feeney remaining in the family collection until its current offering. The back of the barrel has remnants of a period shipping label which was from Feeney shipping the bat from New York to San Francisco in the 1950s. The label could be easily removed but was left intact for originality. Ott game used bats are among the most desirable and uncommon of the 500 home run club members. According to PSA/DNA and consistent with our research this particular bat is the only documented autographed Ott game bat known to exist. Coupled with its impeccable provenance we are pleased to bring to market the finest Mel Ott bat of its type. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA (GU 10), LOA from Hunt Auctions (bat), full LOA from JSA (signature), and letter of provenance from the Feeney family: EX
