Description: Important Dick Groat 1960 National League Most Valuable Player award. With one swing of the bat in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, Bill Mazeroski+s walk off home run crowned an incredible 1960 season delivering the Pittsburgh Pirates the World Championship. While Mazeroski deservedly captured the glory with his iconic home run and Roberto Clemente delivered another stellar 1960 season another Pittsburgh Pirate player may well have been more responsible for the success of that season than any other. Dick Groat enjoyed the finest season of his career in 1960 with a .325 batting average, (186) base hits, and (26) doubles in addition to exceptional fielding statistics and NL All-Star team selection. Groat also had several key plays in the World Series to contribute to the Pirates victory including a crucial double play and two RBIs. The award itself measures 16+ across having an octagonal sterling silver placard affixed at front with 10K gold appointments to include bust of K.M. Landis positioned below the second base position of a baseball diamond. -Richard M. Groat+ engraved 10K gold nameplate below -Most Valuable Player National League+ titling, -Pittsburgh Pirates+ team name, and a crossed bats/baseball applique which notes year, -1960.+ Marked, -Dieges & Clust Sterling+ at lower front and their original manufacturer+s label remains in place on the back. Overall condition is outstanding with minimal surface wear to the metalwork and only typical minor age wear to the wooden plaque. Groat joined Honus Wagner, Paul Waner, Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, Dave Parker, Barry Bonds, and Andrew McCutchen in the group of Pirates pantheons who had won the National League+s most coveted honor. Superlative rarity which is being offered for the first time publicly. Includes letter of provenance from Dick Groat: NM
