Description: Dick Groat "U.S. All Stars" Hearst Sandlot Classic uniform and jacket circa 1947-48. Flannel jersey has "U.S. All Stars" lettered across the front and number "2" on back. "Wilson" tag appears in the collar with adjacent size "40" flag tag. Pants are likewise by Wilson (size 32). Red wool jacket has "U.S. All Stars" lettered on the back. In the collar is a "42" size tag with "D.Groat" written on in period ink. Attached is an "Empire Sporting Goods" tag. The Sandlot Classic recognized young talented players and offered them a platform to showcase their skill and helped many move on to Major League careers. Dick Groat appeared in both the 1947 and 48 games; the former honored Babe Ruth whom had been selected an honorary Chairman and the later was played in homage just after his passing.
