Description: Important 1884 John D. Rockefeller signed Standard Oil check. Original check drawn on the account of the "Standard Oil Company of N.Y." in the amount of $130,000 has been signed at lower right by the now Legendary tycoon "J.D. Rockefeller." This was an immense sum at the time (roughly equivalent to just under $3,500,000 today when adjusted for inflation) and the payee was Charles L. Colby who's family held significant railroad interests. In fine overall condition with the slightest touch of storage and handling wear. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of only two Rockefeller checks which have ever been offered. One of the important pieces related to the career of one of history's most storied barons.
