Lot Number: 150

Description: Rare 1909 World Series program (at Detroit). Original program issued for a game played at Bennett Park in Detroit ranks among the more notable with regard to front cover design which is considered among the more appealing of the era. Unscored with pre-printed interior lineups including Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb marking the only time that these two revered batsman would ever face each other in play. The Series would stretch to seven games and ultimately the Pirates claimed victory behind the brilliant offensive display of Wagner. Vibrant color to front cover which has some background toning/discoloration and mild corner/edge wear (most pronounced at lower right where there is a small tear). It is held in place by tape along the bound edge. The back cover is missing. Interior pages, which include a team photo of the Tigers and composite of the Pirates, have lighter wear and the entire program has a faint vertical fold at center. Notably rare with this being one of a few known surviving examples and the first we have offered at auction: Displays as VG (see description)
