Description: 1942 Mel Ott Baseball Writers' Association "Award Of Merit." Presentational plaque (13.5"x17") has a large metal plate affixed to the front with is engraved with a lifelike portrait of Mel Ott set over The Polo Grounds. Titling and text reads, "New York Chapter Baseball Writers' Association, To Melvin Thomas Ott New York Giants, In Recognition Of His High Contribution To Welfare Of Baseball Over A Long Period Of Years, As A Player And Sportsman." A smaller placard below reads "Award Of Merit For 1942." Light wear/discoloration to both the wooden and metal portions and there are a pair of small screws missing from the front. Includes 7"x9" sepia toned photo of Ott holding the award (alongside Joe DiMaggio and Hank Greenberg whom had been similarly honored) and letter of provenance from the Ott Family: EXEstimated Price Range: ($5,000-$7,500)
