Description: Rare 1937 Rabbit Maranville single signed baseball inscribed to Walter Kent. Spalding F.Frick Official National/International League baseball (dual markings) has been signed on the side panel, "Best Wishes + Yours in Sport, Rabbit Maranville." The panel below is inscribed "to Walter Kent Jr 1937" and written on the panel above, is "Good Health, Good Luck, Keep your chin up, May God Watch over you always." All of this is done in Maranville's hand. The fountain pen signature rates 7-7/8 out of 10 while the inscribed panels have faded to a touch lesser (6-6/7). Ball displays mild even toning with a hint of light wear. Kent became well known as a young Boston area sports fan when fate put he and Babe Ruth in the same hospital in 1931. Young Walter had a fatal disease and much was written in period newspaper accounts of how he cherished a ball that Ruth had autographed for him. This additional keepsake was retained by the Kent Family, along with the Ruth ball, until 1998 when they were donated and auctioned off to raise funds for a charity. Includes full LOA from JSA, letter of provenance from a Kent Family member/descendant, and some additional supporting/background documentation: Overall EX
