Lot Number: 617

Description: Important John "Jack" Adams 1915 National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies presentational pocketwatch. Exceptional quality (23) jewel 14K gold presentational pocket watch by noted maker Howard has "JBA" blue enameled monogram on back of casing. Opens to reveal hand engraved titling which reads in full, "Presented to you as a member of the First Philadelphia Championship Team of the National League 1915" and signed in print "F.T. Stotesbury Chairman." Marked around the edge "E.Howard Watch Co. Boston" with additional "14K" stamping. Although not presently in working order it is likely that a skilled jeweler could easily restore function, otherwise the watch displays light general surface wear with some small perimeter chip to interior face. Retains its original mahogany lidded case having Howard manufacturer's markings on interior. Very fine early piece of championship jewelry as relates to the Phillies Franchise first League Championship season, a feat which they would not repeat for another (35) years. Lead by the venerable G.C. Alexander who produced one of the great season long pitching performances of all-time, the Phillies met Boston in the World Series, noted for the first post-season appearance of Babe Ruth. This newly discovered specimen is one of only four such examples that we have encountered and along with the 1915 Phillies team signed baseball in this auction is being offered for the first time publicly. Includes letter of provenance from the Adams family: EX
