Description: Significant Mel Ott game used baseball attributed to 400th Home Run. Lightly toned Ford Frick NL baseball exhibiting evident use, inscribed by Mel Ott in blue fountain pen, "400th Home Run June 1st 1941". The ball itself clearly shows game use with several notable areas of impact. Ott clouted his milestone 400th home run during the first game of a double header played against the Cincinnati Reds at the Polo Grounds in New York. The blast occurred in the third inning with one man aboard in the 17th season Ott had spent with the New York Giants. The offered baseball certainly bore great importance to Ott as it was one of only a few career milestone baseballs preserved within the family collection. Additionally, the characteristics of the 400th home run baseball are identical to Ott's 500th home run example which was donated to the National Baseball Hall of Fame some time ago by the family themselves. Documented milestone baseballs from elite Hall of Fame members dating to the pre-war period are exceedingly rare with very few having entered the collecting marketplace. Exceptional Mel Ott home run baseball with direct family provenance. Includes vintage Spalding baseball bag in which ball was stored and letter of provenance from the Ott family: EX
