Description: Bat and baseball attributed to the 1928-30 Byrd Antarctic Expedition. Interesting pair of pieces are believed to have accompanied Rear Admiral Richard Byrd and crew on their first historic expedition to the Antarctic. They derive from ship engineer Leland L Barter, according to a typewritten summary detailing chain of ownership, and a Jan. 28, 1930 dated original "Radiogram" (on expedition specific stationery) is included from Barter as sent in the midst of the trip. Includes Louisville Slugger model "40 T.C." bat (34" long) with partial Cobb decal on the barrel end showing usage and surface wear (decal is discernable but has areas of loss) and well used/soiled red and gold stitched baseball (no visible markings).
