Description: Fine 1966 Roberto Clemente NL Most Valuable Player presentational trophy from the Mutual Savings Bank of Puerto Rico. Large figural trophy as presented to Clemente in recognition of his 1966 National League Most Valuable Player Award. Walnut multi tiered plinth base having figural silver plated batter and two handled loving cup finials. Two applied brass placards are inscribed (in Spanish), respectively, "To Roberto Clemente Most Valuable Player National League Season 1966 Pittsburgh Pirates" and "On behalf of the Puerto Rican people and as a token of admiration and appreciation for his exemplary performance in and out of sport for the good name of our island, the first Mutual Bank of Puerto Rico presents this trophy to the first Puerto Rican to be selected for such a high honor in sports." Dated and titled in English at the bottom "Mutual Savings Bank de Puerto Rico San Juan, PR, April 1967". Wooden surfaces have some typical light scratches and the batter/loving cup figurals have some retouch to the silver plating with batter missing its bat. 24" tall. Very notable presentational trophy illustrating the extraordinary pride that the people of Puerto Rico exhibited in Roberto for earning the Most Valuable Player Award in 1966.
