Description: Material from the Robert Smith Collection incl. autographs, photos, and files (GD-NM) Includes 1969 typed letter signed "Albert B. Chandler" with outstanding content related to the position of Commissioner and the events which lead to his losing the position and Ford Frick being voted in; Dec. 3, 1962 dated publishing contract which has been signed by Waite Hoyt (and initialed numerous times) and Bob Smith for a book about Babe Ruth (does not appear this particular book was ever published); additional Waite Hoyt signed pieces incl. lengthy handwritten letter filling (4) legal sized pages with some choice baseball/career related content signed "Waite" (appears that 1 page is missing), handwritten note in greeting card signed "Waite", (8) typed letters which are signed "Waite" (most complete but it appears that 2 are missing the first page), and short typed note signed "W"; (4) envelopes of research gathered by Smith covering early players Cy Young, Chas. Radbourne, Bumpus Jones, and George Bradley; several vintage c.1950s-60s photos/prints of turn of the Century baseball scenes (likely gathered for use in publishing projects); a pair of second or third period acetate negatives of Cy Young (photo of a photo); several book page plates/illustrations which appear to have been removed from a copy of Spaldings "America's National Game"; and others.
