Description: Fine Baseball themed hand carved folk art walking stick from the Cap Anson collection c.1893 (EX) Unique hand crafted folk art walking stick stands 33" tall with a large round baseball shaped handle. Carving throughout the shaft begins with the year "1893" at top along with likeness of an American Eagle and a bat and ball. Throughout the remainder are portraits of (11) Major League players (the Captain of each team cited) including Anson, Caruthers, Comiskey, Ward, Nash, Hanlon, Miller, Pfeffer, Abbey, Ewing, and Richardson. An included handwritten letter of provenance (dated 1994) from the granddaughter of Cap Anson states that it belonged to her grandfather and has been passed down through the family. One of the more finely executed folk art pieces from this period which have handled with regard to provenance and skill level of the maker. Light natural handling and age related wear: EX
