Description: UPDATED DESCRIPTION: 1959 Bobby Shantz Rawlings Gold Glove Award. Classic trophy features a wood base with brass placard applied at front that reads "1959 P - Bobby Shantz, The Sporting News American League All-Star Fielding Team". Mounted above are a metal figural baseball which is impressed with the year "1959" and a Rawlings brand baseball glove which has been finished in a light gold wash. The upright back bears affixed metal plate which is decorated to resemble a baseball diamond and is lettered "Rawlings Gold Glove Award." Fine overall condition with some natural age related wear. A highly prestigious honor as presented annually to the premier position players in each League with this being one of eight awarded to Shantz. NOTE- The leather glove is an original vintage GOLD GLOVE. It appears to be from one of Shantz's GOLD GLOVE AWARDS. Based on period photographic comparison (see catalogue detail photo) it likely originated from one of Shantz's other 7 gold glove awards.
