Lot Number: 236

Description: Scarce Tony Lazzeri professional model baseball bat c.1938-39 with exceptional Family provenance (PSA graded "GU 9.5"). Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with Lazzeri facsimile burned into the barrel measures 35" long and weighs 36oz. Usage wear evident throughout with the barrel covered in ball and contact marks along with some additional minor indentations. A chip in the knob has been expertly repaired and the surface lightly buffed to bring out a fine luster. The bat has exceptional provenance having been consigned to this sale by his great niece and it is being offered for the first time publicly. Lazzeri enjoyed great success on the field and is best known as a member of the New York Yankees during the golden era. His last (2) seasons (1938 and 39) were split between Chicago, New York, and Brooklyn and he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. Lazzeri bats are notably scarce with few examples coming to market, the offered being the only we are aware of which can be traced back to the family. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA, LOA from Hunt Auctions, and letter of provenance: EX
