Description: Smokey Joe Williams life sized bronze statue from Legacy Square. Fine work depicting Williams in uniform stands approx. 5'9" tall (69 inches) atop 44"x36"x6" base. Years of outdoor display have resulted in choice surface patination with no flaws worthy of mention. Considered among the greatest pitchers of all-time Williams feats have attained legendary status within Negro League folklore and he was Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. During a career which spanned three decades he played for some of the game's most notable teams including the Hilldale Club, Chicago American Giants, and Homestead Grays. Throughout he took part in scores of exhibition games against Major League players as is known to have defeated (5) future Hall of Famers incl. G.C. Alexander and Walter Johnson.
