Lot Number: 350

Description: Outstanding 1970 Earl Weaver autographed Baltimore Orioles professional model road jersey (World Series Championship season). Desirable road jersey done in grey flannel has "Baltimore" across the front in scripted logo font with number "4" below. Number also appears on back below the name, "Weaver." A "Spalding" manufacturers tag is present on front tail with adjacent size "44" tag and wash tag. Embroidered strip tag in collar reads "43 Set 2 70 4" denoting size (likely an odd size for which Spalding presumably had no stock tag), set number, year, and player number. Signed below "Earl Weaver" in blue marker rating 8 out of 10. A custom pocket, as is found in nearly all Weaver jerseys, has been sewn on the interior left chest for use to hold cigarette packages. Usage and wash wear evident throughout. The face of baseball in Baltimore for (17) seasons during which he served as Manager of the Orioles, Earl Weaver led the club to four American League Pennants with his sole World Series Championship coming in 1970. An intense figure with his own philosophies on the game and leadership, his energy fueled legendary Umpire confrontations that include some of the baseball's most memorable on field moments. Early career examples of substantive Weaver material are virtually non-existant with this piece, and it's direct ties to an historic season, certainly ranking among the finest in circulation. Includes auction LOA from JSA (autograph) and LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
