Lot Number: 273

Description: Fine 1949 Warren Spahn Boston Braves professional model road jersey. Desirable grey flannel jersey with "Braves" team name and tomahawk logo across the front has the now retired "21" player number on back. "Spahn" embroidered strip tag is present in collar along with an "Horace Partridge" manufacturers label. Logo patch appears on left sleeve. The year "49" is noted in a swiss embroidered strip tag on front right tail. Oustanding representation dates the season in which Spahn won a League leading (21) games and touched off what would be an era of dominance in the National League. All told he won (20) or more games (13) times with (8) of those being seasons in which he finished atop the NL. Strong usage and wash wear evident throughout with a repaired tear to collar. There is a small stain at upper back and some other light/mild scattered discoloration. Structural components of the jersey remain all original however it was, at one time in the period, tailored in two places on the back with some visible, though by no means distracting, evidence of tiny stitch patterns remaining. Fresh to market and offered for the first time publicly by the original recipients in the period. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
