Lot Number: 193

Description: Outstanding Babe Ruth single signed baseball c. 1940s . Very lightly toned Wm. Harridge American League baseball signed across the sweet spot in blue fountain pen by Babe Ruth. The signature rates a resounding 9 out of 10 and could reasonably be argued to rate higher. The ball itself retains its navy blue league stampings along with a small -U.S.+ above the manufacturer+s sweet spot denoting its production during WWII. Ball surface remains uniform overall with no game use and only some very minor age toning. This particular specimen was originally obtained by a Naval Chief Petty Officer who was stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The officer was responsible for training sailors in physical fitness and sports recreation during which time he had the occasion to meet Ruth at his Riverside apartment in New York. Ruth signed several baseballs for the men one of which (the offered example) the young officer retained and subsequently descended within his family. During our 22 years in conducting auctions we have had the privilege of offering some of the finest Babe Ruth single signed baseballs to have entered the marketplace inclusive of the current highest graded exemplar. In that spirit, we feel inherently confident that this particular Ruth signed baseball is quite literally among the very finest we have offered to date with its only superior being the aforementioned highest graded example. Truly incredible Ruth signed item. Includes auction LOA from JSA along with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (Graded: Ball: 6, Signature: 9, Overall Grade 7): Ball: EX-MT, Signature: NM/MT-MT
