Lot Number: 428

Description: Babe Ruth autographed baseball bat with exceptional provenance c.1935. Louisville Slugger 33" long model "40 B.R." baseball bat with Babe Ruth facsimile signature burned into the barrel end has been signed in period fountain pen rating approx. 4/5-5/6 out of 10. Fountain pen "Babe Ruth" signature appears in an area which has had the surface sanded down directly adjacent to gold foil stamped "Powerized" marking. Accompanied by a brief descriptive placard (printed on paper stock mounted to backing) which reads in part, "On the occasion of the 13th birthday, in 1935, Fred Archibold was presented this bat by Babe Ruth. The Babe sanded the finish from the barrel to sign his autograph. Later, the boy added his FJA initials. After his death in 2000, Mr. Archibold's estate place (sic) the bat up for auction. Alex Flanagan, wife of former Orioles pitcher...gave it to her husband for his birthday..." Bat has a hint of extremely minor surface (largely mentioned for accuracy) and the initials noted above can be seen (faintly) just atop Ruth's signature. Also includes a framed (11"x13") black and white printed image of Ruth with two young fans and auction LOA from JSA: Bat EX/MT-NM, Sig. GD-VG
