Lot Number: 185

Description: Fine Jackie Robinson professional model baseball bat c.1953 (PSA GU 8.5).Newly discovered exemplar ranks as one of the finest Robinson game bats we have handled and just the second specimen with the lauded vintage "42" uniform number on the knob end. Louisville Slugger 125 model baseball bat with Robinson facsimile signature burned into the barrel end measures 35" long and weighs 34.6oz. Model number "S100" is factory stamped in the knob which also bears a period original "42" player number notation (partially faded/chipped away) which is done in black paint and is characteristic of other known and highly regarded Dodgers game bats from this era. Usage wear evident throughout with ball and stitch marks visible on the hitting surface, grain swelling due to repeated contact, and green rack streaks (another Dodger hallmark). A small handle crack has been expertly repaired and as well as an area of grain swelling to the back barrel. The S100 was a favored Robinson model and is noted on his factory records as being shipped each year from 1949-55 with the exception of 1950. Subtle variations within the centerbrand of this example have allowed PSA to narrow the year of manufacture to 1953 specifically. Includes (2) page letter of authenticity from PSA - John Taube assigning a grade of "GU 8.5" and LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
