Description: Rare Harry Agganis professional model baseball bat c.1953. Louisville Slugger 125 model baseball bat with "Harry Agganis" facsimile signature burned into the barrel measures 34" long and weighs 33.4oz. Knob has "A80" factory stamped along with vintage "3" handwritten in thick black paint marker. The year "1953" has been written on the barrel and coincides with his playing days with the Louisville Colonels (then a Red Sox Minor League affiliate). This bat originates from that area having long been in a small local collection and is being offered for the first time. Usage wear is evident throughout with ball/stitch marks covering the upper hitting surface and remnants of pine tar on the crack handle (which has small piece of vintage trainer's tape applied). "The Golden Greek" was an All-American football star at Boston University and later joined the Boston Red Sox as their regular first baseman after just one Minor League season. His untimely death in 1955 stunned the Boston sports community and he is fondly remembered as, in the words of Tom Yawkey, "a man of great character." Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
