Description: 1931 Mel Hein Rose Bowl presentational charm. Gold football shaped charm features floral design on panel above the laces with "East West New Year+s Day Pasadena" titling below. Reverse is engraved, "Alabama 24 - Wash. State 0, 1931, Mel Hein." Hein had lead the Cougars through an undefeated season en route to the game and was named to Grantland Rice's All-American Team. Later that year he would join the New York Giants touching off his Hall of Fame career. Minimal wear: NM. Special note: This award piece, along with others offered in this sale (lots 73a through 73f), are of special significance with relation to the career of Hall of Famer Mel Hein. A noted figure on both the collegiate and professional levels Mel Hein enjoyed a lengthy career which stretched from his days playing at Washington State through (15) seasons with the New York Giants. Among his lengthy list of honors are (5) first-team All-Pro selections, (4) Pro-Bowl selections, recipient of the Joe F.Carr trophy in 1938, and having been named to NFL's 50th and 75th Anniversary All-Time Teams and the 1930s All Decade Team. His jersey number (7) is retired by both Washington State (first in school history) and the New York Giants.
