Lot Number: 82

Description: "Last pitching rubber used at Yankee Stadium" with provenance from Sparky Lyle. Vintage pitching rubber (24"x6"x6") is accompanied by copy of a letter on "From the desk of Sparky Lyle" stationery which reads (in part), "...During 1974 they started to remodel Yankee Stadium. After the construction began I purchased the pitchers mound from the head groundskeeper who had just removed it. This is the very last pitchers mound before the remodeling began." Metal placard (5"x12") relaying the same is affixed to top of rubber which displays considerable usage wear throughout. "The House That Ruth Built" opened its doors in 1923 and over the (85) years that followed hosted over 6,500 home games. Many of the most notable players in history made their way through the famed New York stadium with countless hurlers standing upon similar pitching rubbers mounted within that very mound. Interesting and unusual stadium piece: VG-EX
